This is a common expectation of women in the United States (and other areas of the world), and the goal young girls place in front of themselves: "Having it All." "Having it All" is a systematic belief that women can simultaneously be (and want to be) a mother, a workforce professional, a loving wife, a friend, put-together physically, and be mentally, emotionally and physically healthy, and happy, all of the time.
This is a lie.
This lie grows in the feminine mind, causing us to wonder if there is something wrong with our efforts, our love, our personalities, if unachieved. This expectation leaves us with feelings of guilt. Feelings of fear. Feelings of failure.
The truth is: When you resist the moment you are in and the imbalance that everyone will experience, you are blocking yourself from achieving an amazing peace of mind.
All lives are out of balance in many different forms; balance and imbalance cannot exist without each other. Ride this wave. Make peace with your imbalances.
1.) Begin to witness your thoughts. How are you holding yourself back in this moment? How are you participating in keeping this lie alive? It helps me to write a list. Take note. Watching your thoughts will help you to detach from them.
2.) Next, find a place to sit in stillness. If you cannot find a quiet space, allow the background noise and listen to the silence in between. It is there..
Gently close your eyes. Become aware of your surroundings and the positive energy around you.
Breathe in. Breathe out. Deepen with each cycle of breath.
Inhale: I breathe in peace.
Exhale: I release this guilt.
Inhale: I am exactly where I need to be in this moment.
Exhale: This moment is all that I have.
Inhale: I have so many successes to be proud of.
Exhale: I forgive myself for placing this expectation upon myself.
In the end, these negative feelings are a resistance based on a belief that has been placed in you by society. Society understands "perfect" forms - the exciting and prestigious career or job, the perfect romantic relationship, the happy family - that do not, in reality, exist.
Trust me. You are exactly where you are, and that is exactly where you need to be.
