The Holy Instant

"An instant offered to the Holy Spirit is offered to God on your behalf, and in that instant you will awaken gently in Him. In the blessed instant you will let go all your past learning, and the Holy Spirit will quickly offer you the whole lesson of peace." - A Course in Miracles

I have a brilliant friend who grew up in a household sans religion or spirituality, but recently started attending church. She is also dedicating her life to a career in science.

We were talking about spirituality, and she mentioned that despite her willingness to believe that there is a higher power, miracles still freak out her logical mind.

Being the student that I am, I offered her the perspective from A Course in Miracles.

That all a miracle is is a shift in perception from fear to love.

A moment so holy that it is transformed.

That miracles are natural, and we're the ones who get in the way with our disbelief and our resistance.

Her reaction to this perspective was one of the most inspiring moments I've had in my lifetime. She was floored. She resisted the urge to pace around the room and excitedly asked to know more.

This was the holy instant.

The instant that you accept a perception that supports love.

The instant that childlike wonder fills you.

The instant that you see there is a better way.

The instant that you comprehend that miracles are natural.

Let's take this as an example and sign to practice the holy instant this week. With a partner, a stranger, a problem at work, when we perceive lack rather than abundance, when we try to give up rather than hope.

Holy instants add up to holy love. I wish you many instants.
